International Youth Conference on Biodiversity in Aichi 2010

Saturday, August 21 – Friday, August 27, 2010

In August 2010, the International Youth Conference on Biodiversity in Aichi 2010 was held in Aichi Prefecture. One hundred youths in total (70 individuals from outside Japan, and 30 individuals from Japan) jointly discussed the theme of “Biodiversity Conservation and Its Sustainable Use in the World.” On the final day, the International Youth Biodiversity Forum (presentation) was held and a statement and other results were delivered to showcase the accomplishments of the conference.

Details of the conference

Objectives

(1) To provide youths, who will become leaders of the next generation, with opportunities to deepen their understanding of biodiversity conservation and its sustainable use.

(2) To develop human resources among youths, who will become leaders of the next generation, by providing them with opportunities to participate in international discussions and activities.

(3) To facilitate international networking and mutual understanding among youths.

Details

With the CBD Post-2010 targets in mind, the youths shared ideas about what can be done to prevent the global loss of biodiversity. The activities included case studies, excursions, workshops, discussions, and presentations.

After sharing ideas, the results of activities were compiled in a statement, etc., which were delivered at the presentation.
