Objectives

The excursions featured field work in satoyama still remaining in Komono-cho, Mie-gun, Mie Prefecture to learn about (i) diversity of living creatures in different environments and (ii) harmony between Japanese people and nature.

Details

The excursion provided participants in five groups (each comprising 20 individuals) with an opportunity to experience satoyama in Komono-cho.

  • 2 .Field work in Japan’s satoyama
    • Group 1: a field survey in satoyama forests (Chinquapin forests)
    • Group 2: a field survey in satoyama forests (man-made Japanese cypress forests)
    • Group 3: a field survey of the waterside environment (river)
    • Group 4: a field survey of cultivated land (rice paddies)
    • Group 5: a field survey of the waterside environment (reservoir)
