Preparation of Biodiversity World Map / Action Plan / Statement

Objectives

A biodiversity world map was prepared to promote communications among participants and check their knowledge of biodiversity. The Action Plan was designed to organize projects for taking action to conserve biodiversity in participants’ own countries, etc. after the conference. Based on these activities, a statement was compiled to widely publicize participants’ ideas about biodiversity and actions that youths are expected to take.

Details

A biodiversity world map was prepared to identify (i) issues that threaten biodiversity in respective regions and (ii) biodiversity conservation activities in respective regions. Participants shared ideas for action, which were then developed and refined to a feasible level (Action Plan), and opinions solicited in advance were carefully selected. A well-organized final statement was completed through discussions that continued until late at night.

Cultural Exchange

19: 30–21:00 on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 (at Aichi Health Plaza)

Objectives

Cultural exchange activities among youths from different countries were intended to promote personal communications and thereby build personal networks for the future, so that participants can continue to implement the Action Plan after the conference.

Details

In addition to discussions among participants, this Youth Conference also held cultural programs featuring costumes, music, etc. of respective countries. Participating youths were requested to wear their country’s native costume, and mini games and communications programs (including presentations of cultures while listening to music of respective countries) were held. The cultural exchange hall was filled with a multinational atmosphere that is uncommon in Japan.
