MISIA is one of the best-known female singers in Japan.
Since her debut in 1998 with ‘Tsutsumikomuyouni…,’she has released many masterpieces such as ‘Everything,’ ‘Aitakute Ima,’ and so on. The total number of sales is over 30 million, and she is popular across the Asian region.
Her powerful 5-octave range and overwhelming voice fascinate the audience. She is highly regarded by the overseas audience for her perfect live performances, which are the fruit of her relentless pursuit of entertainment.
In 2004, she became the first Japanese female singer to accomplish a 5-major-domes tour. She performed in Ai-chiky?haku whose theme was “Nature’s Wisdom” in 2005. In 2008, she held an arena tour in the Asian region including Japan and 5 cities of Taipei, Shanghai, Singapore, Seoul, and Hong Kong. She has attracted a cumulative total of more than 2.5 million audience during her long tour from 2009 through 2010, titled “Hoshizora no Live V Just Ballade.”
Her unique and rare talent did not bloom only in the music scene. Since 2005, she has been participating in the Japanese campaign of G-CAP (Global Call to Action Against Poverty).
During TICAD IV (The Fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Development), MISIA held a live titled “Africa Benefit Live YOKOHAMA” aiming to develop awareness of African and global issues. She joined Bono of U2 and Youssou N'Dour in an event to advocate the eradication of poverty.
In 2008, working hand-in-hand with UN organizations and local non-governmental organizations, MISIA successfully launched her “Child AFRICA” project to improve the educational environment of the children in the developing countries. She has been focusing on social actions with a global point of view.
Her achievements in the past were highly valued and she was appointed Honorary Ambassador for the Tenth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP10) by the United Nations in March 2010. MISIA joined mudef as a Board member in May 2010. Mudef is a general incorporated foundation established to raise awareness towards global issues through music and art.
MISIA released her new piece “LIFE IN HARMONY” produced by Mr. David Walter Foster, a world-renowned music producer, in August 2010. The piece’s theme is biodiversity, and it has received a high evaluation from Mr. Foster.
