ąŁKirishima-Yaku National Park 54,833 ha.:(March. 16, 1934)

Located in the southern part of Kyushu, this park embraces Kirishima volcanic range, Kagoshima Bay with active volcano of Sakurajima, and Yakushima Island.
Kirishima Range consists of some 23 volcanic cones with 15 craters in complete shape, 10 of which are filled with water. They present a mysterious sight as if we are visiting the surface of the moon. There are many hot springs at the foot of the mountains where holidaymakers enjoy excursions throughout the year. Hiking and camping are popular in summer, and skating in winter.

Kagoshima Bay, embracing Sakurajima Island is a beautiful inlet hemmed by several touristic sites, i.e., Kagoshima City, Ibusuki Spa, and Sata Promontory.
Yakushima Island is a mountainous island. Mt. Miyanoura, the highest peak (1,935m) in the western national park of Japan, covered with famous Yakusugi (2,000 to 3,000-year-old Japanese cedar) and other primeval forest Annual rainfall on this island is as much as 4,000 mm. This island is designated as one of the Biosphere Reserves of UNESCO's MAB programms, one of the World Heritage sites (natural).
